Appendix 1: Procedure for When a Disclosure is Made

Flowchart procedure for handling disclosures of abuse or concerns.

Procedure for when a disclosure is made:

All concerns must be brought to the Responsible Person in Charge of the event or the Regional Safeguarding Representative (RSR) or a member of the National Safeguarding Board (NSB). If you are unable to contact the above, contact the National Coordinator of JYUK.

Steps to follow:

For any disclosure by an adult or child, observations, concerns, complaints, whistleblowing, or allegations:

  1. Listen to and reassure the child/adult. Record on the Disclosure or Incident form and forward to safeguarding@jesusyouth.co.uk
  2. Avoid expressing disbelief and do not push for information
  3. Tell them what you will do next
  4. Do not promise confidentiality but do explain who the information will be shared with and why
  5. Information must only be shared on a need to know basis

If there is any immediate risk or danger:

Yes — Immediately contact the Police or Social Services. Notify the Responsible Person in Charge/ the RSR or a member of the NSB on the same day. Record on the Disclosure or Incident form and forward to safeguarding@jesusyouth.co.uk

No — Notify the Responsible Person in Charge/ RSR or a member of the NSB on the same day. Record on the Disclosure or Incident form and forward to safeguarding@jesusyouth.co.uk

Allegations of past abuse must be reported even if the alleged perpetrator is no longer alive or not perceived to be a current risk to children/ vulnerable adults.
