Trustees

  • Ultimate legal accountability for safeguarding (Charity Commission expectation, irrespective of operational delegation)
  • Approve the safeguarding policy annually
  • Receive the NSB annual report and any Serious Incident escalations
  • Ensure adequate resourcing (DBS budget, training, staffing of NSB and regions)
  • Appoint the National DSL on recommendation of the NSB
  • Sign off any decision to remove a volunteer for safeguarding reasons (jointly with National DSL)
  • File Serious Incident Reports with the Charity Commission where threshold met
  • All trustees: enhanced DBS check, trustee safeguarding training every 3 years
  • One named Lead Safeguarding Trustee acts as the board’s safeguarding champion and sits on (or attends) the NSB
